2020 GlobeMed Summit

Redefine: Challenging Notions Within Global Health Equity!

We are incredibly excited to host our 13th annual Summit in Evanston, IL from March 26-29, 2020.

The theme for our 2020 GlobeMed Summit is “Redefine: Challenging Notions Within Global Health Equity” and will focus conversations around reimagining traditional concepts of, assumptions about, and approaches to four areas:

  • Health

  • Wealth

  • Partnership

  • Leadership

Using GlobeMed’s signature learning model, within these topic areas our participants will intentionally reflect on the impact and meaning of challenging the status quo, engage in learning and awareness about new and stimulating ideas, discern the importance of the work and their role in it, and spark plans of action together to take back to their campuses.

What is Summit?

The GlobeMed Summit catalyzes collective learning & collaboration between ~150 students, grassroots partners, and peer organizations from around the world. This conference provides students with a critical understanding of the intersections between global health and social justice, educates about ethical practices in global engagement, and provides a space for like-minded individuals to network and form relationships grounded in values of social justice and health equity.

Who can attend Summit?

The Summit is held every Spring in the Chicagoland area. Full Summit registration is made available only to GlobeMed chapter members and alumni, which includes lodging, some meals, and access to all workshops and events throughout the weekend. Applications typically open every December for the following year.

What can I expect from Summit?

We have been privileged to host a variety of speakers including non-profit leaders, corporate executives, and our own GlobeMed alumni and partners.  Past Summits have featured organizational representatives from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and Company, the Abbott Fund, Bristol-Myers Squibb Foundation, FACE AIDS, GBCHealth, Global Health Corps, Partners In Health, Public Health Institute, Human Rights Watch, Chevron, APCO Worldwide, Purpose, AMPATH, and USAID.

All featured keynote events are open to the public. Past keynote speakers include global leaders such as Paul Farmer, Joseph Amon, Stephen Lewis, Joia Mukherjee, and Gary Slutkin.

Rockwood Leadership Institute Training

TAKE A BREATH

Let go of whatever you’re holding on to… for the next few minutes, at least. Give yourself a moment to slow down, breathe, and take a break while you explore what joyous and effective leadership can do for you.

Each section of the training focuses on one of Rockwood’s 6 core practices. Through guided meditation, small group exercises, games, and deep reflection, you’ll be introduced to each, and learn ways to bring them into to your daily life:

  • Purpose
  • Vision
  • Partnership
  • Resilience
  • Performance
  • Personal Ecology

The word leader is traditionally associated with executives and manager, but at Rockwood, everyone is a leader. The ability to inspire and align others is essential in every role, and at every level.

That’s why our trainings are open to anyone who’s interested in deepening and strengthening their leadership skills. The only pre-requisites are a willingness to step out of your comfort zone, to give and receive feedback on their strengths and blind spots, and to learn with and from others.

The Art of Leadership is more like a retreat than a training. It unfolds over 5 days in a beautiful, natural setting, with all meals and snacks taken care of so you can focus completely on yourself and your leadership.

Since 2000, Rockwood Leadership Institute has provided thousands of social change leaders across the globe with tools and skills to help change themselves, their communities, and the world.
