Foro Latinoamericano de Inversion de Impacto (FLII) 2020

The Latin American Impact Investing Forum (Foro Latinoamericano de Inversión de Impacto), organized by New Ventures, has positioned itself as the most important gathering of social entrepreneurship and impact investing in Latin America. Since 2011, the FLII brings together the main actors from different sectors across the region: impact companies, corporates, investment funds, foundations, NGO's, business schools, and change makers from all around the world who come together to create innovative solutions to solve the most pressing social and environmental issues.

FLII 2018 Preview: Latin American Impact Investing Forum

Good news: the impact ecosystem has never been stronger in Latin America and at a global level! More players get involved every day and commit from different parts of society to tackle crucial issues the region is facing in terms of health, education, financial inclusion, environment and sustainability. Traditional banking and investors, philanthropic foundations, family offices, universities, pension funds, and even governments all around the region, show a growing interest in social enterprises and impact investing, gradually permeating the idea that you can do good by doing well.

Why is this exciting? Because social and environmental challenges in Latin America are so big that all the philanthropic money and government aid in the world would not be enough to address them. And impact investing offers a unique opportunity to drive long-term outcomes such as the ambitious United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. By channeling private capital towards disruptive projects implementing innovative solutions, we can improve the lives of thousands of people, providing them access to healthcare, quality education, clean energy, affordable housing and transportation. We can build resilient cities and communities that overcome obstacles and recover from adversity.

And then, what? What can we concretely do? As the leading impact investing platform in Latin America, New Ventures catalyzes innovative enterprises that both generate profit and contribute to solve social and environmental problems in the region. We try and help great ideas become success stories to inspire as many change makers as possible. And as firm believers in collective intelligence, empathy and shared knowledge, we created in 2011 the Latin American Impact Investing Forum (Foro Latinoamericano de Inversión de Impacto – FLII) now known as the most important gathering of impact investing in the region.

Every year, the Forum brings together about 400 investors, entrepreneurs, and change makers from more than 20 countries around the globe to discuss sectorial trends, inspiring examples and strategic alliances.

This year, the agenda, designed with the support of our Advisory Board, will particularly focus on the power of resilience and the relations between United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and impact investing in Latin America.

From February 27th to March 1st, 2018, in Mérida, Yucatan, we will facilitate up to 40 thematic panels, participative workshops, Speed Talks, and networking sessions on health, education, financial inclusion, environment and sustainability challenges, among many other exciting topics.

So be part of the solution! Get inspired and join us for the 8th Latin American Impact Investing Forum! Click here for more information.

Highlights from FLII: 2017 Latin American Impact Investing Forum

When the Latin American Impact Investing Forum was created in 2011, New Ventures had no idea it would later become the most important meeting on impact investing of Latin America. It came to light very naturally, as you bring together your best friends to share a good bottle of wine. Since its creation, the Latin American Impact Investing Forum—Foro Latinoamericano de Inversión de Impacto (FLII in Spanish)—has always been about the people it brings together.

After six years of gatherings and a growing number of impact investing events that reflect the dynamism of the sector throughout the world, we wanted to  create something special for our 2017 convening; we aimed to generate a friendly and relaxed atmosphere for high-level investors, entrepreneurs, and changemakers, all of whom share a common interest in bettering the lives of thousands of people in Latin America. That was our success metric.

With more than 400 attendees from 24 different countries (50 percent of attendees came from countries other than Mexico), the 7th annual FLII demonstrated that you can have fun while tackling critical issues such as health, education, women empowerment, housing, access to energy, mobility or transparency (just to name a few).

Held in Merida, Mexico on February 14-16, the forum included inspiring panel discussions, speed pitches, speed talks, workshops, and opportunities to discuss challenging questions with a diverse audience. Together we explored the blurred lines of the sector, and dealt with exciting trends such as the role of foundations in impact investing, the potential of faith-based initiatives, and lessons learned from investing during difficult times.

During the forum's three days, the conversations covered a large spectrum of interests, from the importance of mentoring to strengthen the ecosystem, to the value of storytelling, and the relevance of innovation and creativity, regardless of your position in the impact investing world. The perspectives of social impact bonds in Latin America provoked constructive debates, as well as exit strategies for investment funds.

Networking sessions played an even greater role this year, for this edition—purposely called “Let's meet up!”—specifically aimed to offer participants numerous and relevant opportunities to connect. We were particularly happy to attract new attendees to the forum this year, and observe that about 50 percent of attendees participated in FLII for the first time this year. And we are obviously thrilled to know that they are all willing to come back next year!

For those of you who were unable to attend in 2017, we invite you to join us next year and let us know what you would like to see, hear, and experience so we may make next year's experience even better together.
